LONDON – The National Health Service has been providing the UK with world-class universal healthcare since its introduction in 1948. Key to the longevity of this national institution is, without a doubt, the dedication of the loyal staff who maintain the hospitals, clinics, specialists and drop-in centers throughout the nation.

Recognizing the selfless work and inspirational achievements of the NHS employees is the annual Celebrating Success Awards, with awards reflecting the organization’s core values of care and compassion, dignity and respect, quality, teamwork, openness, honesty and responsibility. For the recent awards, which took place at the Empress Ballroom in Blackpool, LD Ollie Wilkinson specified CHAUVET Professional Rogue R2 Wash, Rogue R1 Spot, and Rogue R1 Beam fixtures in support of his overall lighting concept.

With the night itself very much centered around the guests themselves, Wilkinson decided to focus his lighting concept accordingly, placing special emphasis on illuminating the tables with the Rogue R2 Wash fixtures, which were flown from a centrally positioned truss.

“This year, I wanted to place visual emphasis upon the tables without exposing the guests to unsightly glare,” commented Wilkinson. “This was a challenge, but the Rogue R2 Wash’s zoom range really helped. I could zoom right into the tables without affecting the guests’ comfort.”

Thanks to the 19 15-watt RGBW quad-LEDs, Wilkinson was able to provide ample illumination to expose the winners’ tables throughout a number of categories, including Team of the Year, Staff Member of the Year and Young Achiever Award.

“I’m always pleased to use the wash fixtures, because they’re such a versatile addition for events like this,” continued Wilkinson. “The output is especially impressive given the relatively compact size, and they provided me with that extra bit of accentuation for the winners’ tables, which was top priority.”

Providing a little touch of eye candy to fill the magnificent Empress Ballroom during the awards presentations were the Rogue R1 Beams. Utilizing this fixture’s 140W Osram light source and 5-facet and 8-facet prisms, Wilkinson was able to send light soaring into the rafters to ensure interesting and colorful looks.

“I specified the R1 Beams to provide a number of aerial effects and to create some punch for the awards music,” continued Wilkinson. “I relied on the split beam gobos to full extent to wash the room with delicious effects. I also placed these on the edge of the stage, so they were not only lighting the room but providing eye candy.”

In addition to R1 Spots, complete with custom heart gobos as requested by the client, Wilkinson also specified 34 CHAUVET DJ Freedom Par Tri-6 fixtures to uplight the pillars throughout the room.

“It’s great to have been involved in such a good cause,” said Wilkinson. “My preferred Chauvet rig normally finds its way onto rockier tours, but it’s a great feeling to deliver a lighting concept that has a positive influence on the awards themselves.”
