Lockdown Lighting 2.0:

With restrictions on public gatherings remaining in place, industry members have implemented long-term alternatives to traditional live events. Going beyond temporary ventures, these initiatives include drive-in concert series featuring major artists, inbuilt TV studios, and permanent livestream venues. In this issue we explore some of these efforts.

When the well-known owner of Logic Systems got the call to light Live Nation’s inaugural drive-in concert, he knew that it would be setting the stage for many similar shows in the future. He welcomed the challenge, and met it in brilliant fashion.

Started with the help of Marconi himself a century ago, RAI is a premier name in European television. Patrick Lavarone talks about how Fumasoli Audio & Light Rental turned its improvised warehouse-studio into a production facility for this prestigious TV network.

SXS Events did over 10,000 events in its history. When the pandemic brought public gatherings to a screeching halt, owner Johnny Palmer pivoted his business and created a multi-purpose production space that generates a steady workflow for his company, which is now called Pytch.

Tim Messina and the Events United team began livestreaming almost as soon as the pandemic hit. They quickly discovered a strong demand from organizations looking for an online alternative to live fundraisers. In the ensuing months, their streams have generated over one million dollars in donations for various charities.
